“Connecting to the real world through mindful inquiry, literacy, art and social responsibility”
Real Worlds Literary Arts Project unites whole school communities through mindfulness, social justice and publishing. We work with teachers and students to engage in contemplative practices and creative arts workshops that lead to the successful publication of an on-line and print journal displaying high quality essays, poems, short stories and artwork related to socially relevant themes.
With the guidance of an expert literary arts coach, teachers and students learn a creative way to think about and respond to complex social issues through Mindful Inquiry and Social Justice Pedagogy. Activities include: self-reflection and imagery, inter-cultural dialogue, shared-inquiry, text-based discussion and studying human rights movements. Teachers and students work side by side through a series of contemplation practices and artist workshops where participants reflect, dialogue, write, revise, edit pieces for publication.
By participating in Real Worlds Literary Arts Project, teachers and students build trust and rapport, increase their sense of agency and learn together how social injustice and human rights movements continue to shape how we see ourselves and the world.
